Buck avenges the life of his master John Thornton by killing the yeehats responsible. Buck then explores the wilderness beholden to no master. Buck returns to the forest and remains with a pack of wolves. Each year he visits to the valley where John Thornton died, mourning his lost, dearest friend. Buck becomes the wild alpha-dog he was always meant to be.
