I don't think Warren is a bad man. Had Warren seen the extent of Silas's illness he would no doubt have been more compassionate. Marry was the only one who had seen Silas huddled against a small stove in a barn. Silas only wanted to fulfill his obligation both to Warren and the community. Had Silas lived, I think Mary would have instilled a sense of Christian forgiveness within her husband. I think Silas and Warren would have better understood each other through the help of Mary and Silas could have stayed.
