What is the "Call of the Wild"? How does if affect Buck's behavior throughout the novel?

AS soon as Buck is "dognapped" from his comfy life in California he begins to regain his instincts. They are instincts honed through generations of God/nature given doggy-wisdom. Buck's inner wolf is awakened as he begins to push himself and commune with the elements. Buck begins to take charge of his own doggy destiny. He beats the tar out of Spitz to become lead dog. He then finally severed his connection with man (after beating the tar out of the Indians who killed Thornton) to finally become alpha-doggy of the wild.

Buck wasn't dognapped; his owner didn't have enough money to pay for things so Buck's owner sold him to French Canadians.

not true @ raven c #339467 because it was Manuel the gardener's helper to dog-nap Buck since he was a gambeler and his wages didn't over lap with the needs of his wife.
