The story tells a blind man named Robert whose the narrator's wife's old friend. Robert's wife, Beulah passed away. Robert was visiting the dead wife's relatives in Connecticut. The narrator and his wife lived nearby, and the narrator's wife has invited Robert to visit their home. The narrator wasn't enthusiastic about a blind man, he never knew about blind people, and also his being blind bothered the narrator.
