This is similar to your last question. In PD James's uncomfortably relatable dystopia, the planet looks like a grey wasteland. The natural environment looks like it's in intensive care fighting a cancer that needs to be destroyed. Unfortunately, the cancer is us and the first order of business is to remove humanity from the equation. Man's domination over nature has only resulted in nature purging mankind. Other animals seem too unaffected. It is man that is the sole cause of nature's disease.
