Why did Wu Mei relate to the main character in the book A Little Princess

The story "A Little Princess" is about a girl called Sara Crewe who changed her life through her own efforts (like Adeline's independence, for example, when she got lost, she found her own way by learning how to read a map) . Adeline realized that adults could be wrong in judgement of a child (like how Niang and her father treat her as bad luck and despise her) and thus, she felt a close connection to the protagonist and hopes that she can reverse everyone's poor opinion of herself, and become the princess like Sara Crewe.
