Describe three different conflicts in the novel. How is each one resolved?

1. Rucker Blakeslee wants to marry Miss Love Simpson, years younger than him, three weeks after his wife died. His kids are concerned about all sorts of issues including town gossip. Although a marriage of convenience, the two do eventually fall in love.

2. Will Tweedy (the narrator) has a close encounter with a train that almost runs him over. He jumps between the tracks just missing the train.

3. Clayton McAllister, Miss Love’s former fiancé, shows up to persuade her to leave with him. That would seem a conflict but Miss. Love sends him packing. The local gossip sees the kiss and starts a rumour but it doesn't do too much damage.
