Coleridge saw imagination as "emplastic". Coleridge felt that emplastic had the power to "shape into one" and to "convey a new sense." Coleridge most likely borrowed from the Greek word meaning "to shape". Coleridge found that words were maliable and that he could shape them "to convey a new sense."
