Cooleridfe often used what he knew best as a tool when writing. Raised on stories or folklore and superstition, Cooleridge used the English setting and native folklore as a base for his own work.
Coleridge is romantic by virtue of his Humanitarianism too. His medievalism too makes him romantic. The ancient Mariner is wrought with the glamour of the middle ages. Like ordsworth, he dreams of the political regeneration of mankind and had a great enthusiasm for the French Revolution though its cruelty latter repelled him.
Coleridge's poetry is the most finshed, supreme embodiment of all that is purest and most ethereal in the romantic spirit.
