Over the course of the novel, the most important thing Hank learns is the value of humility. When he first arrives in the sixth century, he is full of himself.... ready and willing to use his advanced knowledge to change everything for the better. Unfortunately, those changes become self-serving.... his intentions are to create a greater good, but he forgets about the people.... the individuals. In the end, Hank learns to really see the people.... to understand them, and that is the greatest aspect of his transformation.
