Jarvis is shocked and upset by his son's words, and he's unable to continue, so he walks away. He begins to read again because he is compelled to understand his son's words and the conflict within them. In reading his son's words, Jarvis is forced to question what he has taught his son, and the truth of the things he does not understand because he's never experienced them. He is as naive, as his son once was.
