Cry, The Beloved Country

patons belief that god is or may be mysteriously at work in human affairs is suggested at a number of points. Give examples of some of the places in the novel where he advances this suggestion. How does he do it?

Stephen Kumalo and Theophilus Msimangu are pastors, and through their characters, Paton illustrates the importance of simple Christian values. Neither man preaches during the novel, but both men embrace the values of kindness and understanding, as well as exhibit them in their own lives. Over the course of the novel, kindness becomes a major theme. People are changed by kindness. Small kindnesses have the ability to tranform lives, they have the power to open doors...... and faith gives sustenance and inner strength.
