Kumalo is pretty despondent at this point. Kumalo has had to endure one sad affair after another in Shanty Town. His only consolation seems to be in his faith and that God and suffering is a fact of life. He doesn't know why people live,struggle and eventually die. He just repeats the prayer that God is somehow with him (the prayer above).
