On chapter 26 Why does Msimangu thank God that John Kumalo is corrupt?

Msimangu thanks god that John Kumalo is corrupt because if he was not Kumalo might very well lead the country into bloodshed. If Kumalo had the drive and fortitude, he could rally a whole people to a cause. The cause would ultimately lead to violence.
