What is the nature of the household in which David is first raised? What do we learn about the young David’s traits of character and personality?

David's childhood is somewhat happy until his father dies. He lives contentedly with his mother and Peggotty, his nurse, until his mother marries Mr. Murdstone. Mr. Murdstone and his sister are cruel and violent people who treat David badly. At one point, David fights back by biting Mr. Murdstone, at which point, he is sent away to school.
