How has the neighborhood changed? Why does it matter to the story that his surroundings are no longer the way they used to be?

The neighborhood used to be open and welcoming..... there was also a great deal of room. Willy wishes for the old days in light of all of the construction and overcrowded conditions. This information matter because it helps the reader (or audience) understand Willy's desire for everything to stay the same..... he does not like change.
