How does de Tocqueville feel about racism in America ?

Democracy in America is often used today to illustrate strong opinions about the inhumanity of the practice of slavery in America. Alexis de Tocqueville addressed both the treatment of Native Americans and African slaves in his text. He cites that not all of the white people in America were civilized, notably because of the fact that those who utilized slave labor were not industrious. He does not however consider the slave or Native American as civilized people, but rationalizes that with the appropriate opportunuties could become civilized.
