We must first understand that Easy Rawlins isn't a typical hero but a noir hero or anti-hero. Noir heroes have a particular set of traits. The only difference between other famous noir detective heroes is that he is black. Like most Noir heroes, Easy is more of a loner and somewhat isolated. He is hard on his luck and needs money. When asked to track down Daphne Monet, Easy finds he is in way over his head. Beneath Easy's hard exterior, he is sympathetic underneath.
