how would u characterize the authors style ( diction, syntax, tone)

"Divergent" is written in a reasonably straight-forward manner, but the setting and ideas presented are so foreign to the average reader that some readers may have difficulty understanding some sections of the story. The overall tone of the story is one of hope though there are moments of tension and fear. An important aspect of the story is the plot by the Erudites to use the Dauntless to overthrown the Abnegation. There are clues to that conclusion throughout the book. In some ways, the book is very predictable with Beatrice's Divergent personality saving the day and Beatrice connecting romantically with Four. The story is set in some futuristic time and there are indications that the time is not too far in the future. One day Christina indicates she has something important to tell Beatrice. She asks if Beatrice can be a girl for a moment. When Beatrice doesn't understand, Christina says she wants Beatrice to be a "silly annoying girl." Beatrice answers by twirling a strand of hair around her finger and saying, "'Kay." The reference seems to be to the typical air-headed blond of modern day literature. None of the factions seem to promote this kind of behavior as typical so it's left to the reader to determine the importance. There story is divided between dialogue and narrative. Both are reasonable and acceptable to the story, the characters, and the setting.
