In Book I, Chapter 16, Maritornes is a servant, and she is described as homely. Over the course of the chapter, Quixote convinces himself that the homely, young woman, is actually the innkeeper's beautiful daughter, and he imagines that she has fallen in love with him. When Maritones later comes to his room, he transforms her into the woman he wants her to be..... and the comedy that follows is anything but chivalric.
