Donne himself did NOT term this poem as metaphsical, but scholars have noted the presence of metaphsical properties.

Donne compares and contrasts metaphysical traits; he compares spiritual, transcendant, and abstract qualities to a concrete physical, tangible, sensible objects.

Donne compares the love he shares with his wife to a compass. (Stanza 7)

Donne mocks what he believes to be idealized, sentimental romantic poetry (Stanza 2)

He indulges in gross exaggeration (hyperbole) and he also presents the argument that he and shis wife will always remain together spirtually even when physically parted.

it is metaphysical poem because it compare spiritual transcendant and abstract qualities
