Faustus is tempted by the devil, but throughout the play Faustus seems to do the tempting himself, what do you think about that?

Faustus is human. He exhibits human failings and suffers from the same temptations, second thoughts, and weaknesses, which all humans fight against. This allows the devil to manipulate him with questions and put forth ideas that will lead Faustus down the path he wishes him to follow. Ultimately, like us, Faustus must make his own choices. He will either buckle in the face of manipulation or overcome the things he knows to be wrong.
