How do the main characters in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde discover the real world by enter an unreal or surreal world

This is very difficult for me and I do not see how this can be answer since this novel doesn't really show any unreal or surreal events

The unreal or surreal events surround Jekyll's transformation to Mr. Hyde and then Hyde's excursions into the night. Mr. Utterson and Richard Enfield finally discover the grim truth about Jekyll's transformations and eventual demise. They discover the truth about mans' separation of a dark and light side. They see how Victorian social repression of darker human instincts lead to this tragedy.
