Dracula

How do you think a Victorian reader would have reacted to Dr. Seward's description of the sights awaiting him at Lucy's house on 18th of September.

Victorian readers tended to be somewhat "prissy" and tried to avoid the "seamier" side of life. The idea of so much destruction in the house, the way in which lives are taken/wounded, and a simply unbelievable plot would have disturbed Victorian readers. The whole idea of this chapter would have offended them.
