What does frank represent to eveline??
What does frank represent to eveline??
Eveline's beloved, who has asked to marry her. He has a home in Buenos Ayres, and he wants her to come with him. Frank represents a new beginning and freedom from her oppressed circumstances. At the same time Frank also represents the danger of untested waters and fear of the unknown. He also represents guilt for she would have to leave her ailing father. In the end she lacks the courage and strength to make that leap that will free her of her oppressive situation. She's too scared to leave Ireland, and sees her lover as a possible source of danger: "All the seas of the world tumbled about her heart. He [Frank] was drawing her into them: he would drown her."
