How is "The Sisters" an ideal story with which to open Dubliners? How is it less than ideal?

Joyce's use of "The Sisters" in the opening of Dubliners immediately takes us into his own personal experience and allows the reader to relate to him from the get-go. He didn't use it to address the topic of death and dying, so much as he used it to emphasize the effect of specific moments on a person's life. The darkness of the theme might be a deterent to the reader.... on the other hand, it's also a hook...... it can be seen as ideal or less than ideal, depending upon the reader and the reader's reaction.
