Why Jasper is considered as good character ? He killed many peoples and vampires before he met Alice and joins to Cullen family.

Jasper actually tries to change. Exhausted from the violence and killing, he ran away and met Alice who adopted him into the clan of Cullens. He still struggles with the his new 'vegetarian' diet as a part of the Cullen family.
