What is the apparent mission of the group having a discussion on the first page of the novel?

The so-called "mission" of the two men is to gage Ender's readiness for the task they wish him to fulfill. As of yet, we are unaware of exactly what the task is, knowing only that he is believed to be "the one".... the one to save the world, and that they're willing to manipulate him in whatever way is necessary to accomplish their task.
