Why do you think Card chose children as the main characters of the novel?

I often wondered why Card chose children so young. Ages 6 and 7 seemed awfully young to comprehend what they were supposed to. I see in the movie version they had the boys as much older. As to your question, children are much easier to indoctrinate (brain wash) and shape into the older people they want.
