Tensions between Enrique and Lourdes begin to rise. Enrique resents his mother for having left him, and says that “money does not solve anything” (197). He accuses her of loving Belky more than she did him, arguing Belky got a good home while he was left with an irresponsible father. He tells Lourdes that he considers his grandmother, Maria, to be his real mother.
