How does Enrique’s life change as he grows up?

Enrique is plagued by his mother's abandonment, Enrique leaves Honduras and braves the difficult journey north to reunite with Lourdes. Enrique grows up wanting out of the poverty of his native country. He eventually decides to leave in search of his mother on his own. Though Enrique has many personal problems - a drug addiction and serious resentments among them - he is also defined by his persistence, bravery, and incredible sense of hope.
