Ethan Frome

The title of the book happens to be the same as the name of the protagonist. Titles do not get simpler than that but he does have an odd sounding name. Ethan Frome has a steadfast quality to it; it is a name that feels solid and stoic. The name accurately reflects the man. He is a simple, solid, and stoic man. He is trapped in loveless marriage and finds new life in a younger woman. The steadfast and stoic Ethan desperately wants change in his life but the very qualities, which make him strong, also make him incapable of making drastic change for much of his life. The imagination behind Ethan himself is told through the eyes of a narrator who gives color to Ethan's rather grey world.
