Compare and contrast between the characters of Stephen and knowell in the play.
Knowell is an older gentleman, who is described as traditional, well respected, and concerned by his son's supposedly disreputable behavior. By the end of the play, however, it seems that he is more willing to accept his son for who he is and not bother himself with such trifling thoughts.
Knowell's nephew, Stephen, is referred to as a "gull," which means a dupe or a fool. Unlike his uncle, he is easily angered, selfish, and someone who is often made fun of.
