Who they are
Who they are
Maggie and Dee are sisters. Both share the same history on a rural poor Southern farm. Dee is Mama’s elder daughter, she has renamed herself Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo. Dee is articulate, outspoken and intelligent. She is also very selfish and ignorant about her own background. She visits Mama and Maggie demanding "quaint" things that are still used on the farm. In re-discovering her "African roots" she shed her real identity. Maggie is much more weak and resigned to a life on the farm. She is the antithesis of her sister, hiding in the shadows still afraid of her sister's assertiveness.
