Everyday Use
What is the basic conflict in Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use”
answer in two paragraph
answer in two paragraph
The basic conflict revolves around Mama's apprehension over her Elder daughter's visit. Dee is her older daughter and she is manipulative and controlling. We get a bit of Dee's history in the story. Dee has risen from the poverty in rural Georgia and is now college educated. She brings with her a condescending tone of entitlements to all the "quaint" things that Mama and Maggie, her little sister, use everyday. There is a conflict over old quilts that Mama finally refuses to give Dee. Dee wants to display them in her flat while Maggie will actually use them.
