What is the plot of the story?

Does the sequence of events that make up the plot emerge logically from the nature of the characters and circumstances? Or does the plot rely on coincidence and arbitrary events?

The plot emerges logically. It is the story of the small town girl that got out of town.... got an education, and moved to the city. Once in the city, she realizes the value of the things she grew up with. Unfortunately, the value she places on tradition is not what her mother hoped for.
