Everyman: Morality Play

What does deaths request that Everyman give an account of his good deeds tell you about the beliefs of many Christians living during the Middle Ages?

The obvious answer that many Christians believed that Good Deeds can save one from the ravages of Death. Part of the point of the play, however, is that Good Deeds cannot take the place of the important sacraments of the church. Obviously one had to do Good Deeds, but other sacraments and other Christian actions were going to really save Everyman.
