what is the dramatic effectiveness of offer of everyman of a bribe to death?

I suppose there is some dramatic irony with everyman trying to escape death through bribery. Nobody escapes Death. Riches mean nothing to Death which makes Everyman look rather silly. We place importance on things that have nothing to do with actual living and the afterlife.
