Fahrenheit 451
On page 49 Montag asks Mildred when the last time she was really bothered by something. What does he mean, and what is Bradbury trying to ask his readers through this question?

Montag wants Mildred to feel something again. He wants Mildred to snap out of her complacency. People in this society have ceased to feel anything real or of substance. This is also a metaphor for our own world where we have substituted technology and disposable consumerism for anything that is real or of substance.
