Explain how the following contrasting image play against one another fire - ashes

I think there is a duality to this. Fire is juxtaposed with destruction as well as purging, and hence creation. The ashes of books represent the death of knowledge: the destruction of wisdom. The final purging of the city represents destruction and creation. A new more enlightened society will rise from the ashes.
