Fahrenheit 451

1. Fahrenheit 451 is a book about both willful ignorance and censorship. Explain how willful ignorance created the society depicted in this novel. Then describe how censorship works to maintain the status quo in Montag’s America and prevent people like him, Faber, and Clarisse from forcing change.

In Fahrenheit 451, censorship occurs in the burning of books and the control of media. Willful ignorance allowed censorship to occur, it allowed history and thought to be manipulated. If the populace is kept ignorant, drugged, and addicted to reality television, which is anything but real.... they don't care, don't want to know, and are too ignorant to act or question.
