How does Mildred answer Montag when he says she should read? What does there exchange indicate about their differences between them?

Mildred kicked at a book. "Books aren't people. You read and I look around, but there isn't anybody!"

From Mildred's comment it is easy to see that she is without imagination..... that she has no desire to learn anything new or to question the world they live in. Millie wants instant gratification..... entertainment..... someone else to think for her.
