The young Clarisse becomes Montag's mentor. Although Clarisse might not know it, she opened his mind to the truth about life. He realized how unhappy he was. He also realized that the world, as he knew it, was built on lies and superficiality. I think Montag loved Clarisse for who she was and for how her brief meetings changed his view of the world.
