"Come on, woman!"

The woman knelt among the books, touching the drenched leather and cardboard, reading the gilt titles with her fingers while her eyes accused Montag.

"You can't ever have my books," she said.

This part is both tragic and heroic. The old woman understands what Montag will only come to know much later in the book. Knowledge in books means truth and that is what matters in this world. This has so much relevance today as we constantly shift from knowledge to mindless entertainment and nonsense.

"You're not like the others. I've seen a few; I know. When I talk, you look at me. When I said something about the moon, you looked at the moon, last night. The others would never do that."

Clarisse McClellan knows what's going on. People have long since stopped communicating with each other real emotions. Take a look around a crowded bus or subway today. People sit beside each other but are engrossed in their cell phones or virtual realities. Clarisse's statement seems rather prophetic.

"Are you Happy?"

Montag flounders at this question. He really isn't happy but is too caught up in his life to notice. Many of us go on in life chasing money, relationships, fame, attention....to ask ourselves if what they are makes them happy. Oddly enough, most of us aren't that happy.
