Fahrenheit 451

What does Faber think that the people, not the government, brought upon themselves the present state of affairs?

What do you think?

The people allowed themselves to be brainwashed by the state. They were complicit in their own ignorance.

Faber thinks that the people started the trend. When the people gladly read only the digests of books in order to appear smart, the government only simplified things further. The people gladly took this direction, and that is why Faber thinks the people brought this upon themselves. He thinks the people should want more highbrow entertainment than lowbrow entertainment.
