While floating in the river, why did Montag knows he must burn again?

The wording is a bit confusing in this question, but Montag realizes that the sun is always burning, and that the firemen are always burning things. Therefore, there is a constant circle of destruction, which he can no longer bring himself to be a part of. He knows that he cannot burn anything again.
