Montag is Fahrenheit 451's main character and protagonist. He is a fireman, and unlike the fireman we know.... Montag doesn't put out fires, he burns them. Although Montag believed himself to be happy, a chance encounter with a young girl, Clarisse McClellan, makes him realize that he is not.
