Why does Bradbury include the sieve and the sand metaphor?
Not what it means but WHY?

Bradbury uses this metaphor to accentuate Montag's hurry.... his urgent need to absorb all the knowledge he can in a short period of time. Montag needs to catch and retain as much wisdom as he's able, as much of it will fall away like the sand runs through the sieve.
