Lieutenant Carroll calls Jenkins an “angel warrior.” Why?

After Jenkin's passing, Lieutenant Carroll called him an "angel warrior" because his father (also a military man) called fallen soldiers the same thing...... he explains that his father called them angels because of their youth and innocence.
