Captain Stewart volunteers his squad to replace another unit that had been hit, solidifying everyone's suspicions that Stewart is prioritizing a higher body count over the lives of his own men. During the interdiction patrol, VC attack the squad, who find themselves completely outnumbered. Although they retreat successfully into the woods, Lieutenant Gearhart accidentally sets off a flare and exposes their position.
